About Carolyn

Carolyn McAdams was first elected mayor of Greenwood in June 2009 and was re-elected in 2013, 2017, and 2021. She is currently serving her fourth term as mayor.

Over the past 15+ years, Carolyn has made the revitalization of Greenwood a priority of her administration, overseeing the development, adoption, and implementation of Greenwood's first comprehensive plan in more than thirty years.

Since being elected mayor, Carolyn has spearheaded streetscape improvement projects on Howard, Johnson, Main, and Fulton Streets and the $2.2 million Rail Spike Park project that has revitalized the Carrollton-Johnson corridor in downtown Greenwood.

Carolyn’s administration oversaw the construction of a new state-of-the-art wastewater treatment facility, structural improvements to the historic Old Greenwood Library building, and the complete renovation of the Greenwood Police Department into a modern 21st century office space and municipal courtroom.

With community pride as her guide, Carolyn has committed her time as mayor to cleaning up Greenwood through better code enforcement, investment in Greenwood's parks, sidewalks, and streets, and more frequent neighborhood police patrols, all while keeping taxes low.

Mayor McAdams has focused on making Greenwood a healthy and environmentally friendly community, earning the prestigious Healthy Hometown Award in 2012, establishing the Mississippi Delta's first municipal recycling program in Greenwood, and developing the Yazoo River Trail near downtown Greenwood.

Prior to being elected mayor, McAdams served 10 years as Business Manager for Delta Correctional Facility, 14 years as Section 8 Coordinator for the Greenwood Housing Authority, and 8 years as a member of the Greenwood Tourism Commission.
